From High School to Higher Ed: Online Courses Offer Early Exposure to College

By Jenna Kallal, Marketing Specialist for Enrollment at California Baptist University

Imagine walking onto the campus of California Baptist University for the first time. The modest-sized campus sits in beautiful, sunny Southern California. With top rankings each year from both U.S. News & World Report and The Wall Street Journal, many students may find this first visit intimidating.

But not you. You already know that CBU is a top Christian university in the U.S. You know there are professors, career counselors and success coaches available to work with you every step of the way. You know that CBU is here to help you live your purpose.

In fact, you may have already begun your college journey at California Baptist University through the Pre-College Credit Program.

For many high school students, the transition to college may seem intimidating. From tuition costs and academic readiness to how well they’ll adapt to college life, students and families have a range of concerns when thinking about their students’ academic future. CBU has designed the Pre-College Credit Program to help ease some of those concerns.

College students at California Baptist University

The Pre-College Credit Program affords high school students the opportunity to enroll in one online college course at CBU every eight weeks. And the best part? The first class is free.

Through the Pre-College Credit Program, high school students take college courses alongside other college students (online). Learn how to review syllabi, track deadlines, work in groups and communicate with professors. By the time students begin their first semester at CBU, they will have a boost of confidence when they walk into their classes knowing exactly what to expect.

The courses are asynchronous — meaning students complete coursework on their own schedule at their own pace, without interfering with high school classes or extracurricular activities. They’ll have full access to lectures, readings, assignments and professor communication.

Enrolling in these courses allows high school students to start their college journey with credits already under their wing. Classes are offered at a discounted rate of $166 per unit, a 32% discount off the regular price of online course units.
